Gor Mahia extend impressive run with 2-0 win over Mathare as Posta Rangers blow two-goal lead
The draw saw Posta move to third place with 11 points, two behind leaders Homeboyz, while Murang’a Seal, despite the spirited fightback, remain in the relegation zone with just four points from six matches.
The FKF Premier League midweek fixtures produced thrilling drama across the country as Gor Mahia cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over Mathare United, while Posta Rangers squandered a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 with struggling Murang’a Seal at the Kasarani Annex.
At the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Gor Mahia’s attacking flair was once again on full display, led by the ever-lively Sharif Musa, who tormented the Mathare United defence from start to finish. After a goalless first half dominated by Gor’s missed chances—most notably Musa’s skied effort in the 45th minute the breakthrough came just three minutes after the restart.

A well-calculated cross from Geoffrey Ochuoga in the 48th minute found Sharif Musa, who calmly slotted home to give the defending champions a deserved lead. The winger, who had been a constant thorn in Mathare’s backline, combined pace, trickery, and precision to put Gor ahead.
Despite late substitutions from both sides, Mathare struggled to create meaningful chances, and Gor sealed the win deep into stoppage time when super sub Brynson netted the second, capitalising on a defensive lapse to make it 2-0. The result kept Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run intact as they continue to chase early-season leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.
Meanwhile, at the Kasarani Annex, Posta Rangers endured a frustrating evening after letting a 2-0 halftime lead slip through their fingers against Murang’a Seal.
Posta were dominant in the first half, with Caleb Olilo opening the scoring in the 23rd minute after weaving through Seal’s defence and finishing superbly with his left foot. Defender Faustine Ojiambo doubled the lead eleven minutes later, heading home from a Jackson Dwang corner to give the Mailmen a comfortable cushion at the break.
However, Seal emerged from the tunnel transformed. The introduction of Lucas Maina and Levis Wanjala sparked a comeback, with Maina pulling one back in the 67th minute before former Wazito forward Joe Waithira equalised in the 75th to complete the turnaround.
The draw saw Posta move to third place with 11 points, two behind leaders Homeboyz, while Murang’a Seal, despite the spirited fightback, remain in the relegation zone with just four points from six matches.
Posta will next face Kenya Police FC on Sunday at the Police Sacco Grounds, while Murang’a Seal hosts KCB in Murang’a on the same day. Gor Mahia, on the other hand, continue to build momentum as Musa and Brynson’s heroics reaffirm their status as title contenders.
